Empower end users without losing administrative control.
Tenant-to-tenant migration has changed dramatically in recent years, and password management has become one of its most difficult challenges.
What was once a largely administrator-driven process is becoming increasingly complex as IT teams navigate modern identity security requirements, cloud-first architectures, and Microsoft’s evolving authentication landscape.
Earlier this year, we introduced Self-Service Device Migration, the first capability delivered through the On Demand Migration Self-Service Portal. That release enabled end users to schedule their own workstation migrations, reducing administrative effort while giving users more control over when their migration occurs. Administrators define the guardrails, while users choose the timing that works best for them.
Today, Quest is announcing the general availability of On Demand Migration Self-Service User Orchestration, a new capability designed to simplify password administration during tenant-to-tenant migrations. Instead of relying on complex synchronization methods, manual password distribution, or large-scale reset campaigns, organizations can securely guide users through setting up credentials for their target accounts before cutover.
This release is more than just a new feature.
It represents a fundamental shift in how migration projects can engage end users, reduce risk, and scale identity transitions in a world where traditional approaches are no longer sufficient.
A new approach to password management during migration
For years, migration administrators relied on password synchronization technologies to ensure users could access their new destination environments seamlessly.
However, security and protocol changes across the Microsoft ecosystem have altered this model. Traditional password-copying approaches that relied on legacy mechanisms are no longer universally available, and modern password propagation approaches often introduce operational complexity, infrastructure requirements, and dependency on password-change events.
On Demand Migration Self-Service User Orchestration lets migration administrators delegate password setup directly to end users through a secure, guided self-service experience.
Instead of manually distributing passwords, forcing password resets, or relying on complex synchronization workflows, administrators select users and invite them to the self-service portal.
Users authenticate with their source identity, access the self-service portal, and establish credentials for their target account before cutover. Administrators maintain full visibility into progress and readiness without the manual effort.
What this means for your organization
1. Reduce security risk and simplify complex environments
Modern migration projects often require organizations to balance security, operational complexity, and user readiness. Traditional password management approaches can introduce infrastructure dependencies, agent deployment requirements, and processes that become difficult to manage across large or distributed environments. Self-service removes these dependencies by letting users set their own target credentials directly.
2. Eliminate help desk bottlenecks
Large migration programs can involve thousands or tens of thousands of users, and every password issue, scheduling request, or onboarding question creates additional pressure on IT teams.
On Demand Migration Self-Service User Orchestration moves many of these activities directly into a guided end-user workflow, reducing administrative overhead.
3. Scale cloud migrations more effectively
As organizations continue their move toward Microsoft 365 and cloud-native identity, migration solutions must evolve. The new self-service model is particularly valuable for Entra ID environments where traditional approaches may not deliver the flexibility organizations require.
A new model for migration success
For years, migration platforms focused almost exclusively on administrators. Users were passive participants, often engaged only at the last possible moment.
The On Demand Migration Self-Service platform signals a different future.
Migration teams retain complete visibility, governance, and control over the project, while securely delegating selected activities directly to end users. This approach helps organizations eliminate manual processes, reduce migration bottlenecks, and solve challenges traditional migration technologies were never designed to address.
Rather than forcing customers to choose between security, scalability, and user experience, we believe they should have all three. Quest continues to invest in innovations that help organizations migrate faster, more securely, and with less operational overhead than ever before.
