What all Toad licenses include

All current Toad licenses (online or offline) provide:

  • Full access to the Toad product and edition you purchase
  • All updates, enhancements, and defect fixes released during the license period
  • Access to Quest technical support for the duration of the license

Online Subscription Licensing

Online Subscription licensing uses online licensing, requiring a Quest Software account (Quest.com). Users must sign in with this account to access and use Toad. Once authenticated, Toad automatically validates license entitlement and assigns the account to the subscription license. Periodic internet access is required for ongoing license validation.

Having trouble signing in to Quest.com via Toad? See our Troubleshooting Tips page.

Online licensing uses Quest’s product licensing portal to manage licenses dynamically across users and machines. It provides centralized administration, flexible seat reassignment, and visibility into license usage*.

How Online Subscription works:

  1. In the licensing portal, license administrator can assign users to the license by allocating seats*.
  2. For AI licenses, license administrator enables AI features for the license and users through the license portal.
  3. In Toad, users authenticate with their Quest account sign into Quest.com for license entitlement. Applicable for online Subscription licenses and trials.

Hybrid Offline Mode (Subscription with Offline Device Licenses)

Hybrid Offline mode enables Subscription customers to allocate an offline seat to a specific machine using an Offline Device License file generated in the licensing portal.

How Hybrid Offline Subscription works:

  1. In Toad, users obtain their device activation code and share with a license administrator.
  2. In the licensing portal, license administrator imports the activation code and generates an Offline Device License XML file for user’s machine.
  3. The license file is shared with the end user.
  4. Users import the Offline Device License XML file into Toad to activate the offline seat.

Offline Subscription Licensing (Fully offline environments)

Offline Subscription Licensing is designed for secure, restricted, or disconnected environments. It replaces traditional term-based licensing for select Toad products while preserving a familiar offline experience.

How Offline Subscription works:

  1. In the licensing portal, license administrator registers the license and generates an Offline Subscription License XML file.
  2. The license file can be distributed to end users (manually or via automated deployment scripts, depending on policy).
  3. Users import the Offline Subscription License XML file into Toad to obtain license entitlement.

Seats remain enabled for the duration of the subscription term Once the offline license file is applied, no ongoing internet access is required on end user machines.

Term Licensing (Legacy Model)

The traditional time-based licensing model installed locally remains support for Quest Toad products. Recommended licensing model is Offline Subscription preserving offline usage requirements while aligning with Quest’s modern subscription framework.

How it works:

Toad Data Studio DLV License File

  1. Check email sent from Quest licensing team and download License DLV file.
  2. The license file can be distributed to end users (manually or via automated deployment scripts, depending on policy).
  3. Users import the License DLV file into Toad to obtain license entitlement.

Toad Data Point and Toad for SQL Server License Keys and Site Messages

  1. Users enter their license authorization key and site message into Toad to obtain license entitlement
